Practice standards

RCVS accredited practice logoBoth the Veterinary Hospital and Veterinary Surgery are accredited with the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme (PSS). The scheme started in 2005 and is a voluntary scheme for practices. The assessments occur every four years and involve all areas of the practice from client care, inpatient care, infection control to health and safety and staff training. The process provides an assurance to you that we really are delivering the very best care to our patients whilst also providing an excellent working environment for our staff.

In November 2015 the process changed and assessments focus on demonstrating our standards by speaking to the staff and evidencing our every day practices. Awards are also available in all areas of the practice and give us the opportunity to show what we really do well.

The new site at Gorleston will be inspected prior to its opening with a hope that it will be accredited as an RCVS Hospital. As well as meeting the core and general practice standards the hospital accreditation means:

  • Nursing staff are present on site 24-hours a day to care for your animal.
  • Clinical standards are maintained and improved by monitoring performance and outcomes.
  • A range of specialist equipment is available including ultrasound and ECG.
  • The premises have been subject to a rigorous assessment.

As a practice, both sites have been a member of the PSS since the beginning and are committed to ensuring our practices continue to be accredited and strive to ensure best practice.
