The Veterinary Hospital and Surgery are proud to launch and host the MiNightVet service to ensure our clients and those of the surrounding practices have access to a dedicated night vet team. This service will take over from our current emergency service to ensure your animals are cared for 24-hours a day.
Our MiNightVet team is trained and driven to provide exceptional service to all our hospitalised animals and any emergencies overnight and during the weekend. The veterinary surgeon and registered nurse on shift are committed to the overnight care of all inpatients and as a full working shift they are fresh and ready to continue the care of our patients when the day teams finish.
Weekends are covered by a veterinary surgeon, registered nurse and student nurse/patient care assistant on a rotation from the member practices. This ensures it is one of our local team and a friendly face on duty when you need it most.
Our night service links in with our day team to give a comprehensive 24 hours a day, 365 days a year service. We work closely with our member practices to ensure that all animals that can return to the base practice for discharge or ongoing care are transported by the practices in an animal ambulance. Full handovers and transfer of all records back to the base practice ensures continuity of care for our clients and patients.
As a fully equipped hospital we have all the facilities and equipment to manage the needs of our inpatients and any incoming emergencies. We are committed to the training and continuous professional development of our veterinary teams to ensure we are confident to deliver of the highest standards of care to our patients and clients.

Frequently asked questions
Where do we take your pet when they require emergency treatment out of hours and how do we contact them?
You can phone your usual practice number or The Veterinary Hospital on 01493 661833, which will divert to our out of hours call centre. The centre will take your details and a brief description of the concern and the veterinary surgeon on duty will phone you back.
Our MiNightVet out of hour’s service operates from The Veterinary Hospital Gorleston from 7pm – 8.30am Monday to Friday and from 12pm Saturday through to 8.30am on Monday.
If your emergency is within our daytime opening hours please contact your nearest branch.
Can I use your out of hour’s service if I am registered with another vet?
MiNightVet provides the out of hours provision for The Veterinary Hospital and Surgery in Gorleston and Lowestoft, Coastline Veterinary Surgeries in Carlton Colville, Lowestoft and Beccles, Haven Veterinary Surgeons in Great Yarmouth and Anchorage Veterinary Practice in Acle. If you are registered with another practice you should access their emergency provision by contacting them directly.
How much does it cost should I need to use a MiNightVet out of hours?
The out of hour’s consultation fees are as follows:
Before 11pm and weekend days: £150
After 11pm: £180
Estimates will be given for further treatment required.
Our team will request payment at the time of treatment in the same way as your daytime veterinary practice. Due to the increased costs of providing veterinary care out of hours our fees may well be a little higher than daytime fees – but we work hard to ensure that we are providing an affordable service and that our fees are set fairly. Your pet’s welfare will always take priority and if you are concerned about any financial difficulty you should discuss this with your vet or nurse before consenting to any treatment-as this will allow us to work together to offer you an affordable treatment plan for your pet.
